The Cardinal District is one of nine districts that make up the Heart of Virginia Council of the Boy Scouts of America. The District includes all of Goochland county as well as the areas of Hanover and Henrico counties west of Interstate 95. The Cardinal District serves as home to 2400 Scouts and over 1200 leaders in 37 Cub Scout Packs, 38 Boy Scout Troops, and 7 Venture Crews.

Cub Scout and Boy Scout Roundtable meetings are held from 7:30pm to 9:00pm on the first Tuesday of each month at Virginia United Methodist Church Conference Center located at 10330 Staples Mill Road in Glen Allen next to the Crossridge Shopping Center. [Click here for map]

TrainingWood Badge course SR917 - Fall 2008

Wood Badge course SR917 will be conducted over two weekends by the Heart of Virginia Council in the fall of 2008 at the council's scout reservation in Goochland. The first weekend (indoor session) will be held September 19-21 at the Cub and Webelos Adventure Camp and the second weekend (outdoor session) will be held October 18-20 at Camp T. Brady Saunders.

2008 Day Camp website now available!

The Day Camp website has undergone it's annual facelift and information has been posted regarding the 2008 Cardinal District Day Camp.

New this year is a 6 page Parent's Guide.

The 2008 Coordinator's Guide is now available as well as a Powerpoint presentation to show to your Pack.

Updated Boy Scout Requirements - 2008

Changes to be included in 2008 Boy Scout Requirements book...

Each year BSA makes changes to many of the advancement requirements. These changes are contained in Boy Scout Requirements (BSA Publication No. 33215). A synopsis of the changes can be found at

Join the new Webelos Transition Discussion List

Scoutmasters, Webelos Leaders and Webelos parents should join the list by sending an Email to webelos_transition-subscribe@cardinaldistrict.net.

District volunteers and Scoutmasters will be posting information relevant to Webelos to Scout transition and it will come right to your Email box. Open Houses, special events, and helpful information from around the Cardinal District will be posted throughout the transition year to help the boys and their parents find and select the troop that is right for them.

Centennial Quality Awards

National Quality Unit Award Program has been replaced by the National Centennial Award. There are major changes to this award. More information is available from the National Website at www.scouting.org/awards/centennial/
